1/8th NPT inlet and outlet and flow path help distribute cooling fluid in a thought out pattern. Cool entering from the front cools the front half faster where all the welding will be done leaving the back half to be slightly warmer. The sensor will be reading a hotter reading then the coolant inlet or outlet temps. The sensor data is for a fixture temperatureand that reading could be controlled on actual product fixture designs for mimicking the same weld results or welds done on the fixture. When testing or practicing the small fixture could become heat soaked making parts weld with less amperage towards the end of a session. Its also just a good idea to cool the fixture to some degree so the weld technician is not thrown off so greatly from first run to 10th run. Always the fixture will be cold from the start unless preheated in some fashion either 200 degree F coolant or set in warming oven for a short duration. Just practice welding a few warm up plates will also bring the fixture to temperature of your choosing.
